ADT Pulse is ADT’s high-end home security and home automation service used by millions of customers that combines the company's alarm and security service with home automation and live stream video.

iControl Networks (now part of Alarm.com) built and provides operational support for the software system that is the foundation of ADT Pulse. iControl engineered their “Connect” application to store data in the Oracle RDBMS, which can be configured as multi-node RAC optionally running on Oracle Exadata engineered systems and can be mirrored to DR failover sites in different geographic regions.

As adoption of the home security product caused IoT data sizes began to grow exponentially, RhinoSource advised iControl Networks engineering and IT support teams on Oracle VLDB scaling, performance tuning and coding best practices, enabling them to secure top cable and home security companies as customers.

To handle the product’s growing success, RhinoSource designed an Oracle Partitioning architecture for the application’s database schema for deployment on fault-tolerant Oracle RAC clusters to continuously support millions of US subscribers. RhinoSource created the complex PL/SQL automation scripts that run daily to dynamically manage the system’s large Oracle partitions and drop expired IoT data without causing disruptions to the always-on application.

RhinoSource revamped iControl’s schema install/upgrade utility to allow ongoing schema updates for new releases of the application to be applied with the system online without the need for application downtime, which was critical for meeting strict customer SLAs.

RhinoSource’s Oracle optimizations continue to work flawlessly at ADT as RhinoSource architects provide ongoing support, application quality assurance and performance tuning advice as new Connect application features are added and Oracle update patches are released.

Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ: CMCSA) offers Xfinity Home, a home security and smart home automation solution with live video streaming.

A division of iControl Networks (now part of Comcast) built and provides operational support for the software system that is the foundation of Xfinity Home security and home automation. iControl engineered their “Converge” application to store data in the Oracle RDBMS, with distributed active-active replication between Oracle databases provided by Oracle GoldenGate.

RhinoSource assisted the iControl team with the design and testing of Oracle Partitioning for the Converge home security system schema to allow the exponentially growing amount of IoT data to be efficiently stored, retrieved and purged when expired. RhinoSource created the complex automation scripts that run daily to maintain the system’s Oracle partitions and drop expired IoT data as well as the online partitioning conversion scripts that must run against the live, online database without causing disruptions to the always-on application.

RhinoSource also designed, configured and tested Oracle GoldenGate replication to support a distributed Active-Active Oracle database architecture required to support the multi-region deployment of the Converge system.

When a region of the US was hit with a rash of false alarms and sensor outages, RhinoSource conducted statistical analyses on Converge sensor data in Oracle that correlated the outages with freezing temperatures, leading to the conclusion that a bad batch of sensor batteries had been installed which were the root cause of the false alarms.

Finally, RhinoSource conducted analyses of meshed sensor behaviors in Oracle that helped the engineering team debug sensor firmware and fix issues.

National Express runs its business on Oracle E-Business Suite and needed enhanced financial reporting for their cost center managers.

RhinoSource designed, developed and deployed an interactive profit & loss financial reporting solution for National Express’s cost center managers using Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE), which was successfully rolled out to 250 cost centers across North America.

RhinoSource also supported ETL development and helped tune long-running PL/SQL ETL steps using Oracle fast-refresh materialized views.

Finally, RhinoSource implemented high-precision monitoring of Oracle databases and applications, assessed current state of National Express’s Oracle system architecture and made actionable performance enhancement recommendations.
